As a Medical Doctor, I came across two conditions that physicians had lots of problems with: One was a diabetic foot wound that never wants to heal, and the other a pressure ulcer wound on the parts of the body on which immobile patients would lie for prolonged periods of time. What they have in common is that these wounds do not want to heal as a result of insufficient circulation. The consequence is an infected wound with lots of dead tissue that is often resistant to antibiotics. Modern medicines simply can not penetrate the wound because blood can not take them where they are needed. The problem is compounded by many antibiotic resistant bacterial strains (thanks to overzealous use of these medications).
Although there has been an effective treatment for these conditions for millennia the medical establishment is still stubborn in continuing using antibiotics and cleaning the wound with surgical procedures. Many times this is not effective and the patients suffer. The simple reason why this mysterious treatment that I will shortly reveal is rejected is because it seems primitive and unappetizing. But does that really matter when something really works? I think you will agree with me that the answer is… not really.
So now for the shock. Disinfected maggots from fly larvae have been found to be highly effective for cleaning and disinfecting these types of wounds. They are much more effective for cleaning the wound than surgical procedures. Furthermore, they secrete enzymes that kill antibiotic resistant bacteria; something neither antibiotics or surgical procedures are able to do. The procedure has so much scientific evidence that the Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of maggots for this purpose under the category of a medical device. The problem is no one teaches this in medical schools and most new physicians have no idea about this effective treatment. So next time you find yourself with a wound that refuses to heal mention this to your doctor and get the treatment that really works and be immune to any sarcastic grin!
